One of the best things about smartphones is that you always have a pretty good camera in your pocket. And that has really changed the way I take photos and document my everyday life. Often, in the course of a day, I take photos of things that I find beautiful or interesting or unusual, not knowing whether I'll ever use them or even look at them again. And then sometimes patterns start to form and I see a theme emerging, perhaps street art or doorways or spring flowers. (And then I write a blog post.)
Recently I noticed that I had taken a lot of pictures of lamps. Sometimes I see them in public buildings or people's apartments. Other times I see them in shops. Since they would not be easy to ship back to Boston, I have to be content with photos instead of purchasing ones that I find especially appealing.
Here are a few from the last several months. Some are organic. Some are geometrical. Some are delicate. Some are rustic or industrial.
Finally, here is a (not very good) photo that I found in a French magazine of a ceiling fixture that one could make from hanging sockets, Edison bulbs, and a piece of a branch. (Or you could buy it from Miliboo for 160 euros.) It would look great hanging over the dining room table in my (not yet acquired) cabin on a New England lake.
