Chapel at Saint Germain-des-Pres

February 12th, 2018

Last week the 9am mass on Sunday morning was not held in the main church but instead in a small adjacent chapel.  I don't know how old the chapel was, but it looked ancient, certainly hundreds of years old.  It had been restored in a both contemporary and respectful manner, though.  I especially liked the simple and powerful tiles representing the stations of the cross.  Here are two of them.  They are "Pilate condemns Jesus (1)" and "Jesus dies on the cross (12)."

I wanted to take lots of photos after mass, but Kate was too embarrassed to let me.  In particular, I was interested in photographing the frescoes in the inset surrounding the crucifix, but that was not happening.  You can catch a small glimpse of them in the first photo above.
